Where did they come from?

Jeremy (Jed): Born in Manchester 1957. Moved to Germany in 1977, then moved to Switzerland in 1979. Life on two wheels began as a teenager with a "Malagutti" and toured Northern Ireland and got as far south as Dublin. In 1977 I had my first taste of European travel around France, Belgium, Holland and Germany on a GT Suzuki 250. Since then I have been riding GoldWings 1000,1100,1200,1500 as well as a Valkyrie. I still own a 83 GL1100 which I bought from new in 1983 and it has over 350.000 kms.
25 years ago SAP Tour started as an idea on one of my many excursions into the alps.
Since then SAP Tour has become a big part of my life which brings me a lot of pleasure each year.

Cristelle: Born in CRETEIL France in 1973, moved to Liernolles ( a small village in the massif central). I now live with Jeremy in the Alps above the small alpine village of Saxon. Interests, music, friends, long walks in the mountains.  I discovered motorcycling with Jeremy and really enjoy touring all over Europe. I own a Honda 250 CM Custom  A Kawasaki Classic 800 and have ridden A Triumph Boneville SL 800 in 2010. I am trying to get my bike licence at the present time. Apart from this I enjoy riding as pillion with Jed.

What is SAP Tour All about then?

In more than a word - "Motorcycle touring in the Alps." To date 25 years experience. The SAP concept has been created by tour motorcyclists for riders who are looking for something different and challenging when considering a motorcycling tour of the Alps.

"TO SAP OR NOT TO SAP, THAT IS THE QUESTION"

SAP Tour has been created for tour-motorcyclists by tour-motorcyclists. Participants are guaranteed an alpine touring experience second-to-none. Over the past 25 years, successful 'SAP-ing' around the Alps with hundreds of motorcyclist’s from all over the world, has shown us how to provide and cater for our participants needs. Experience has also shown us that there are riders who are apprehensive about participating on organised alpine tours. I would therefore like to offer some advice to those of you who are considering alpine touring, and recommend that you read the following with an open mind, and to assess the "UP’s and Down’s" in the following lines!

If you are afraid of huge heights or devastating drops, depending on how you see (or do not wish to see) them, then alpine touring is not going to be for you. After all, we are talking about the Alps and Passes here, and they tend to be on top of high mountains. This is something that this organiser cannot change - higher authorities arranged this long, long ago! Riding around 180-degree bends on 15% gradients, up or down, on changing camber, inside a small radius, sometimes together in a tour group, are some of the standard riding situations you may well need to anticipate. There MAY even be tour routes on natural surfaces on some of the daily tours, i.e. non-tarmac surfaces, on top of the tricks mentioned above.

If you suffer from vertigo, agoraphobia, claustrophobia, mountain sickness, or if your 'Motorcycle' is allergic to dust, mud, rain, snow, etc. or you fall into the wimp, thumb-sucker, whinges, featherbeds, or xenophobic category then you may well want to re-asses your desire to travel the Alps with SAP Tour. These points are not aimed at anyone in particular of course, and you may take this whole article to be written slightly tongue-in-cheek. The obvious points mentioned here are intended to be serious. If these bother you, so will alpine touring.

SAP Tour will not herd you like sheep or require you play lemming all day long! Each evening, participants are invited to sit together to discuss tour routes in advance. Depending on what kind of tour you have chosen there is always a tour guide to keep you up-to-date with routes, riding conditions and weather forecasts, meeting points etc. The first Language on SAP Tour is English but French and German is also spoken too.

Although a tour around the Alps is sometimes quite demanding, the great majority of the motorcyclist’s that have participated on SAP Tour throughout the years, have not just survived the experience, they've thoroughly enjoyed it. Many have come back for more SAP Tours too! Not only to take up the gauntlet and face the challenges of riding the Alps, but for the splendid opportunity to learn more about how to handle their machines there, learn about themselves, and meet others who share the same interest.
"To SAP Or Not To SAP? That is the Question!"

THE GOALS OF SAP TOUR

From a bikers point of view, to bring you into contact with the trials and pleasures of high altitude touring, to enhance and broaden your knowledge of handling your machine in the Alpine environment. From a personal point of view, to form friendships between participants from all over the world and make you keen to return for another SAP Tour
.
