2011 Tour Review
Still setting new trends in it's 25th year of SAP Tour's
the
X-Treme 2011 took
place from the 7th until the 13th of August
staying in 3 different hotels - 2 nights in each.
Starting in the Schwarzwald in Germany,
and touring through parts of Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Italy
to finish in the Vercors in France.
Over 5 days, 2300 kms of demanding Alpine roads.
The actual amount of kilometres for some of the participants reached as close as
5000 kilometres when you included their arrival and home journeys.
With 20 machines and 28 participants the 4th SAP
Tour X-Treme
got started with seven
different nationalities taking part from
Belgium, England, France, Holland, Ireland,
Luxembourg, Poland, Switzerland.

The 2011
X-Tréme'rs
I
believe that all the folks you see below genuinely enjoyed
the challenge of
the 2011
X-Treme.
Although some of the faces may tell another story....Ask them when you see them
:)
Fatigue, awe-struck, complacent, drunk, or down right silly- all have a story to
tell!
It was a pleasure to tour with them and
spend many (mostly) a pleasurable
evening over a few beers re-living the days up’s and
down’s through the Alps.

X-TREME
PIT STOP
As is
expected during the trail of an
X-Tréme tour
there are always some technical issues to solve and this year was no
exception.
Brake pads, electrical systems were only two problems I heard about.
I had a loose
neutral light bulb connection that soon got corrected.
Luc's situation was a little bit more ridiculous as he had come on tour
thinking
his Kawasaki had a full service only to find that his brakes pads were
completely
worn out. The fact of the matter was is that his brake pads
had not been changed in the front!
Luc was sorted on day two by a local dealer.
Seeing Luc's reaction at the time, I beleive he is now going to change his dealer!

NIGHT TOUR
160 kms tour over the-Susten-Furka-Grimsel Passes
Although this
kind of challenge is not for all the riders,
those that did take part on the tour were well rewarded.
With the setting sun in the West seen from the
Susten Pass and the rise of a
full moon over the Steingletscher glacier was a perfect setting indeed for one of the
most unforgettable moments of the
X-Tréme tour.

Boat & Train
As the
X-Tréme Tour tries to put its participants
into unusual and new rider situations:- On the Tuesday and Wednesday
sections of the tour, riders had to put their machines on a ferry boat and then
on a train,
just to break up the monotony of Alpine road challenges.

ON THE ROAD
Here are a selection of riders pictures from around the tour.
We only had rain the first day and a half in the Schwarzwald.
The rest of the tour was spent in glorious sunshine.
Temperatures reaching well up into the 30'C.
